In regard to transporting and processing loads received for the construction of Olympic facilities, the reinforcement of the Tuapse–Adler line in critical.
In order to increase the carrying capacity of the line, it will be necessary to build 30.3 km of bidirectional inserts in 9 stages.
The facility is being financed with Russian Railways investment funds.
In 2008, 8.5 km of bidirectional inserts were built on the Matsesta–Khosta stage (4.0 km) and the Khosta–Adler stage (4.5 km).
Since January 2009, in accordance with the approved time line, work has continued on the designing of inserts with work to be fully completed by the end of this year.
In 2009 the construction of 9.7 km of bidirectional inserts was planned for the Shepsi–Vodopadny stage (2.2 km), the Yakornaya Schel–Loo stage (3 km), the Dagomys–Sochi stage (1.5 km), and the Sochi–Matsesta stage (3 km); completion of the Shepsi–Vodopadny stage was planned for June.
As of today, construction and assembly work has been deployed on all stages except for Sochi–Matsesta, where the beach facilities of 11 antiquated health resorts are slated for demolition.
Design and preparatory work are currently being conducted to determine which plots of land, buildings, and facilities will need to be acquired.
The removal of engineering utility lines, and the infilling of foundations and service roads for the construction of the tunnels is been carried out.
Implementing the reinforcement project for the Tuapse–Adler line allows for the incremental increase of carrying capacity to 70 pairs of trains per day by 2011 (delivering up to 21 million tonnes of cargo per year) and ensures the delivery of the planned volume of cargo accounted for by rail transport.
